review 1: I am so glad that I didn't read this when it first came out because it ends in one doozey of a cliffhanger-don't know that my heart could have taken that. I did this in audio and really enjoyed it- I really like the reader, Kristine Hvam. I actually picked this up because I was in the mood for something light and amusing, and for the most part (up to the ending) this fit that. Now I am off to look for spoilers for the next book...
review 2: I am sad to report that I didn't actually finish this book--which I means I chose not to finish the series. I could make this a really long-winded "report" on why I decided to stop reading this series, but honestly, I don't even want to.So, let's keep this long story very short. Let me first say, that this series had a lot
... more of potential. There was an underlying possible romance that could have been incredible. In fact, after the first silly, tawdry affair of Jane's was over, I felt like the actual series really began. I couldn't wait to see the difference between two sets of couples: lust vs real love. The slow development of the two main characters was so darn good I would get butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it! So, how aggravating was it when that same couple I was really rooting for sunk into the exact same stupid, tawdry, silly affairs of the flesh as the first couple. Seriously, I was so disappointed I could have just cried. What in the world happened to the bone-melting romance I was so hoping for?!The story was great. The characters, even better. The incessant cussing and f-bombs that increased in number book by book? Not so much. The worst part, though, was the sex. I was sick of having to flip through page after page after page of constant crap when I'd rather be getting on with the love story itself. By the time Book 5 came along, I only got through about half of it and simply had to throw in the towel. Honestly, there weren't enough redeeming qualities in this series to justify reading it anymore. And again, that makes me very, very sad. Because I was actually really enjoying it. I'm not sure at what point enjoyment turned to disgust.Give me a writer who knows how to write and who does it so well that we'd rather collapse from exhaustion than stop reading! I'm sick to death of someone coming up with a fantabulous idea...and completely. dropping. the. ball. less
