review 1: This book was much better than the previous one. The main character still did a couple of things that did not make me think to highly of either her intelligence or her emotional well being but it was nothing compared with the relationship in the last book. Instead the relationship that is alluded to in this book is in fact with a person who doesn't treat her like a possession and who thinks that she might be more than arm candy and allows her to contribute to the story. And speaking of I found this story much better than the last one as well. The author introduces more of the surrounding community and they are as interesting, perhaps more interesting than the people that have already been introduced. Again this is a much better book than the last, in fact it might be ... morethe best of the series so far, and I am once again looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.
review 2: Book 3. Although I haven't read the first two it didn't matter much. In fact the referred history in some parts made the book more interesting when I filled in the blanks myself. This book was left by a former housemate of mine who is a book reviewer and gets sent a lot to assess. This was one of many he didn't review. It was exactly what I wanted on my Peruvian holiday. An easy read without a lot of descriptive detail. It was hard keeping up with the different types of magical beings and their powers but I think that was because I was very tired! The overall story arc is the same as most supernatural stories I've read before; someone has just discovered her powers, someone else wants to kill her, there are factions in the supernatural world that disagree with each other, lots of fighting, good guys win, sort of. less
