review 1: More of a 2.5 than a 3, but feeling a bit generous, and I suppose I did like it, in a way. I did find Alice a bit annoying at times (maybe I'm not very patient with sick people), and I found Kit to be a bit distant. In fact, I suppose I wasn't really that bothered about either character. It had a plot, suitable twists and turns etc, but for some reason I just didn't engage brilliantly with it. It was still ok to read though.
review 2: Ok, enough already. I got further with this book than it had any right to expect of me, but its sheer blandness got me in the end. ... moreeaden, faux-lyrical prose, no story to speak of, no energy, no point. I wonder sometimes why some author are offered representation by literary agents and others aren't. And who actually makes the decision to publish a book and why? And I conclude that I do not understand anything about the publishing industry. less

I didn't enjoy this. I found the characters shallow and selfish and thoroughly disagreeable.
