review 1: very different. Ender is picked on from a very small age. The world is under attack. they monitor the smart kids and if they pass they send them off to "camps" to train to someday fight the "bugger's". They need the kids to find a way to beat the buggers before they invade again. Ender thinks differently than all the others and they try to keep him isolated with no friends and on the brink of breaking down. They put him in life or death situations and never help him giving him a fight response but in the process others are hurt. ender doesn't want to hurt or kill like his older brother. But as the instructors put him in impossible situations he finds a way out every time. They create mock battles against other teams to see how they may manuever. As time is runni... moreng out they advance him and he trains with the first hero who won earth time to prepare and defend and wipe out the buggar's so they will be able to live in peace. They Push Ender to a brink of exhaustion on simulations and being bullied. They let one bully and his gang try to kill ender, being trapped in a corner knowing it was him or the bully he beats the bully to escape. Later you find out he died, leading up to the one final impossible test /simulation"mock battle" . Ender of corse wins and comes to find out it was a simulator it was a real battle and he sacrificed peoples lives but it won the battle and peace. Ender will never be the same and leaves earth to live with a small group to live their own way of life. Leaving Earth where they threaten war and fighting and the fight for power and his brother - who is controlling countries and gaining power daily.
review 2: How can you not like this book?It is so well written, the story between Ender and his sister is so touching. Even the story around his older brother and the jealousy of not being the "one" was very complete. Peter might be evil, but at the same time he is the foil that both Ender and Valentine need to fully realize thier potential. The story is perfectly balanced, with each peice coming full circle in the end. Orson Scott Card is an amazing writer. less

This is science fiction at its best, alongside Asimov, Heinlein, Bradbury et al.
