review 1: Started reading this a couple days ago, already hard to put down. Mercy has picked Adam as her mate and now dealing with the fear of being killed by the queen vampire. I like it when she has people/beings who have her back. Other reviews say some negative things about this book, I don't share them yet. Finished it. Good story, Mercy answers a request by an old acquaintance. Turns out it is a trap by the head vamp of Spokane who can take on any magical abilities of the creatures he feeds from- so he keeps them for decades, imprisoned and just alive enough to feed him. Her friend's husband (Corban) and deaf son (Chad- very courageous) are also captive. The vamp wants Mercy's ability to control ghosts (which she didn't know she could do until the end of the book) in or... moreder to free himself of a vamp ghost that is bothering him. Mercy kills him, frees the humans and a fae called an oakman, and probably does not kill a newly made solid vamp Catherine who can kill with a touch. Another plot about Stephan (vamp) who links with her, and likes her. Against Marsilia the lead vamp of their area. Convoluted machinations by her to out vamps who were plotting to take over her seethe.
review 2: While this was not as good as the previous book I still enjoyed this book. In fact I am pretty sure I love the Mercy Thompson series, and for once there is an Alpha male that I love. He is very alpha but not so Alpha it is annoying. Yes everyone I do love Adam, he is my current book boyfriend. I also realized during this book, that I am 32 and have to have relationships with fictional men, because the real ones are annoying the crap out of me. I digressThis story felt a lot more like let's set up the next four books, there really wasn't much a plot. Sure there was a big bad known as the monster, but it didn't feel nearly as dangerous as the last bookOverall I still enjoyed the book, but I felt this book had a lot more twist and turns than the previous book. Which in my opinion is to set up the story lines for future books :) less
