review 1: Wow! What happened to MacDonald's writing style? The language and dialogue were stilted and awful, yet I still enjoyed the mystery and plot. It read like the novel had been translated into English, though, honestly. It makes me wonder if it was since, from what I understand, MacDonald speaks French (might be French...not sure about that). Whatever the case may be, I don't think I'll put myself through another of her books if the sample reads like this one did. :(
review 2: I read this book for my bookclub. Overall, I thought it was a good book with a disappointing ending. I thought the author did a great job of sucking me in, and adding a few good twists to keep me on the edge of my seat. But then the ending was frustrating. It reminded me why I don't often rea... mored mystery/ suspense novels. They have to make it someone completely unexpected and wrap it up in as dramatic of a way as possible. I get that. But I did not like the child molestation twist AT ALL. Come on, really? The beloved father was a murderous pedophile? Blech. Lame way to end an otherwise good book. less
