review 1: Overall it is a good book with some great points. The biggest problem for me involves two things: 1) it can be very redundant (which is typical for the author) and 2) the lack of Scripture used. This book is largely a theological presentation of a way to view marriage but there is little biblical support provided. Instead there are sweeping theological assumptions that may or may not be biblical but little Scripture is provided with which to evaluate it. The first four chapters are the best and with that you have the main points of the book.
review 2: This was a very good book that made a lot of good points that a lot of people don't like to think or talk about. What I found the most intriguing and profound is how the author talked about how many people don
... more't love each other who get married, including Christians. Of course, each person feels strong emotions for the other person. They like their personality or their beliefs for their sense of humor, etc, but that's not love. They like the other person because they are pleasing to themselves. The other person matches what they want. And so, once they get married, and the other person starts to not live up to what they want...problems start happening. Love is really what is needed. Willing the good of the other person without expecting anything in return. Love only gives, and doesn't take. I think it was very good to hear, and this message needs to be spread. This applies to all relationships, and not just marriage. less
