review 1: I liked this book; the characters are likable enough and the tension and quests feel real and kept me reading. There were some annoyances though. I did not care for those short sentences at the beginning of each chapter; they distracted me from the story, no idea why writers do that kind of thing. The politics made the story feel real, but sometimes it became a little bit too technical. But luckiky those parts were relatively short. I would have liked to read more about Robert and Anne. They were interesting characters that kind of got overlooked. The ending came a little bit too sudden for my liking. I felt they had still a lot to resolve and weren't even married yet. And sadly the epilogue didn't fill that missing part (I love those little glimpses into the future), but ... moreluckiky I already read the children of the mist-series so I know they will remain in love. But I would have liked to see Connor meet Anne and have him bless their marriages. But if you, like me, started reading this saga in the wrong order, don't worry and start reading.
