review 1: Strong start with a good job of building the sizzle between the main couple. However, I would have preferred more period detail and less on side-characters. Although the cover and title page did not indicate that this was part of a series, there was a page that showed a family genealogy--so I an guessing this is part of a series. Initially, the characters from previous books were incorporated in a way that made sense (and so that the reader did not need to know their back story). But ultimately, there were more and more of these characters with essentially no character development or even physical description. I found myself scanning these sections to get back to the main story. A shame, because I can tell this writer knows how to craft an historical rom... moreance.
review 2: Dante is a single father with two small children, in trade with mills, and is looking for a wife but with no luck. Joan is an oldest sister who is single, loves to work with fabrics of all kinds and designs, and found herself in a undesirable situation for any single woman at that time. Dante offers to help her out by offering marriage regardless if there is a child or not from her indiscretion. She can open doors for him to get investors, be a mother to his children, and possibly be a better wife than his first. They end up going to the same house party for the holidays where he gets to meet her family and friends while he tries to get investors. During this time they fall in love and her indiscretion actually never occurred, and they have a baby on the way that truly belongs to the two of them. Great read!! less
