review 1: My version of this book was actually called 'Tideline' so I'm not sure if it was an older or newer edition. (I think Tideline is a better title, anyway). The novel reminded me a little of Stephen King's 'Misery' and also John Fowles' 'The Collector'. I really enjoyed the sinister opening scenes and the style of writing was just up my street. However, the story seemed to drag a little through the middle chapters, became quite implausible at times and I couldn't really see where it was going. The twist at the end though, changed it all when I realised who the mysterious Seb actually was, and suddenly it all seemed to come together very well.

... morey, the most worryingly real yet infinitely disgusting experience reading this abduction story. A woman in the classy Canary Wharf London "set" has been long pyschologically damaged by an abusive relationship in her teens and she heads back to those days by kidnapping her best friend's boy. Even though this was, at times, way too posh-posh silver-spoon-fed "London" for my liking, it was still genuinely scary how easy the main character seemed to behave terribly at the same time as justifying her own actions...making us believe it was possible to feel and do the same things. Great, manipulative writing by Hancock. Highly recommend this! less
