review 1: Well.....that escalated quickly.I thought Hex Hall was a cliched, pretty run of the mill but pretty fun YA paranormal book. The story seemed pretty safe, pretty tame, and pretty predictable. Not so much with Demonglass, not so much at all. It's like Hawkins took her story, then turned it up by about 300%. The stakes are higher, the enemies are darker, and Sophie, she's just trying to survive. It made for an incredibly gripping story - I ended up reading it in about two hours, until my eyeballs felt like they were about to peel out of their sockets. And yes, there is a love triangle, which I am usually completely against. But I think that this one actually holds a degree of interest. One, because Archer Cross, main love-interest but also DEMON KILLING CULTIST presents a prett... morey untenable position, romance wise, and so there's genuine uncertainty of whether Sophie can ever actually be with him, especially considering that she may inherit the ruling of the Prodigium one day. And two, because Cal is actually really nice. I get Archer's whole bad-ass and brooding vibe, but I love the quiet, friendly, caring type. Cal is seemingly the clever choice - both politically and pain-wise - but Archer makes more narrative sense in the giant world of YA. So, in other words, this triangle has got me genuinely stumped, and I have no idea who will actually come out tops which, is actually kind of refreshing.
review 2: Really i loved the young adult books but this one makes me hate it. It's so predictable that you don't even have to read the end of the book to know what will happen (i didn't). The love triangle is not even well developped. She likes the one who is good but she loves the bad one even if she really shouldn't. And the worst is that she doesn't spend times with the good one! So explain to me how she can be conflicted if she doesn't even know the guy??!!!!!!!! (i don't want to put spoilers so i won't explain who is who so you have to guess).OK, the young adult books have all same patterns and all but in this one everything is all rashed so i can't recommend it. And it's stupid because the first book was really good. A interesting plot with many differents species, a intrigue because she doesn't know who she really is, a guy (of course) and some killing in the schools. But this one killed the series for me! less
