review 1: This book made me go through so many emotions in just a few hours; hope, despair, anger, worry, happiness, sadness, uncertainty. I laughed and I cried and would certainly recommend this to others. It tells the story of 11 year old Byron in 1972 trying to save his other from the consequences of an accident and worrying about the extra two seconds that were to be officially added to time that year. It also gives us the story of Jim, a gentle men with OCD and a history of mental illness. This is set in our day and we come to see how both stories are part of each other. A beautiful book. I will be waiting impatiently for the next book by Rachel Joyce.
review 2: This book is a beautiful picture of mental illness, relationships, and the small moments that make a huge
... more impact on our lives. There were mornings when I couldn't listen to this audiobook during my commute because the pain, the awkwardness, the despair were just too real. I kept coming back, however, and was not disappointed. My only complaint was the author's excessive use of the word "shone" - when listening to a book, repetitive vocabulary becomes very apparent, and distracts from the overall beautiful language in this book. less

It's a pleasant enough read, but for me in no way matched the Pilgrimage book, which was fantastic.

This is a slow burner. I encourage everyone to persevere with what is a very touching story.

Easy to read guest who Jim was very early on. Wanted more of a rejoin between the two boys!
