I wanted to do a more happy holiday tag after doing the Grinch Tag yesterday, so when I saw the ‘Tis the Season Book Tag on Jenica’s blog, Firewhiskey Reader, I knew I found the right tag.
Do you have a favorite winter read?I actually don’t! I don’t really read seasonally, so there isn’t a certain type of book I gravitate towards in the winter or a book that I reread every winter.
Find a book with blue on the cover!I’m going to be an overachiever here and pick a book that not only has blue on the cover, but on the spine and the edges as well! It’s BUtterfield 8 by John O’Hara (apparently no, the capitalized U is not a mistake). I’ll admit, I have no intention of reading this book; I bought it to spell out stuff on my shelves with other Penguin Drop Caps.
Find a book you’d use as the star on a Christmas tree!My first instinct is to pick one of my pretty covers from my Jane Austen collection to put on the top of the tree, but none of those really seem quite right. I think I’d either go with the Puffin in Bloom edition of A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett because it’s pretty and in a Christmasy color, or else the 20th Anniversary Hufflepuff edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone because it’s the most likely to resemble a light on the top of the tree.
Pick one fictional place that would be perfect for a winter vacation!I’m totally stealing Jen’s answer and going with Hogwarts. It’s one of the few fictional places I can think of that sounds like it’d be totally magical for Christmas.
Pick one fictional character you’d take with you on your winter vacation!Hmmm. I think maybe Percy Jackson? He’s really funny, so I know I’d get a lot of good laughs in on my vacation, plus I feel like he could use his powers as the son of Poseidon to make some really cool winter wonderland scenes or otherwise seriously get into the holiday spirit.
Name one book on your wishlist this year! One? Ha! Yeah right. I actually feel like I haven’t read much fantasy in a while even though I love it, so I really want to read The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson, The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima, and A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness sooner rather than later. I’m hoping to get to at least one of them over Christmas break! What one do you think I should start with?
Favorite holiday drink, treat, and movie? My favorite holiday drink is probably peppermint hot chocolate.
I can’t say I have a specific favorite holiday treat as I generally love all the cookies my mom bakes around Christmastime, but there are these chocolate ones she makes that she melts pastel mints on top of, and I could eat those for days. Those and my grandma’s sugar cookie cutouts that I practically grew up on.
And I don’t know that I have a specific favorite holiday movie, though my siblings and I have been making it a tradition in recent years to go to the movies together when we’re all back for the holidays. I never go see movies in theaters in New York because it’s so ridiculously expensive, so it’s always fun to go at home when it’s more reasonably priced. I know we’ve seen the last couple of Star Wars movies in theaters together, and I think my sister and I went to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them last year. This year we have plans to go see Pitch Perfect 3.

Alright, that’s it for this tag. Let me know in the comments what your favorite winter read is!
