In this book, you get to live with the characters, from beginning to the end of their lives. I was shaken by how their lives – human lives – seemed so short. The smallest decisions, greatly influenced by their circumstances, completely changed their lives and the lives of following generations. You can’t help but look closely at your own decisions… will you make that one choice that could change everything? You never know when war or sickness can change everything and take your choices away.
I was blown away by the writing skill in this book! I often get lost if a book alternates points of view but in this case, I loved it! I craved more! Luckily, This is not Hosseini’s only book. Every chapter is like a new world, which can sound overwhelming but this book is crafted in a way that it just flows wonderfully.
Khaled Hosseini is not only an author. He is the founder of The Khaled Hosseini Foundation which gives humanitarian help to the people in Afghanistan. This book gave me a new awareness.. Living in the western world, we know practically nothing of the struggles of such a far away land unless we really dig for information. This book showed me the important fact that these people are human and they have lives, just like us. Many good people are caught in these uncontrollable circumstances. There is poverty, death, sickness, and families that are separated and forced to flee for better opportunities. It is an eye opening novel, everyone should read it.
