Baby Z: A Starry Gender Reveal

While I am busy preparing for the little one’s first birthday party, it is timely that I share with you my preparations for the baby shower last year.

Since relatives from both sides are all in Baguio and Tuguegarao, we thought of throwing just a simple baby shower with my immediate family and Manila friends and colleagues present.  It was an intimate party with around 15-20 guests present. We reserved for 35 pax but because most of my invited friends cannot make it due to emergencies, the party turned out to be a get together between my immediate family and my family in the office with the ever reliable, ever present friend, Jigs, who is now baby Z’s godfather. It was nevertheless a fun-filled and happy Saturday morning. Below is a discussion on the details of my baby shower.

Invitation:

Our onesie inspired invitations were taken from Pinterest. I just looked for printable invitations in the site and made the invitations myself. Except for the printing, I took charge of everything from the layout up to the sealing of the envelopes.  Since the theme was Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, we sealed the envelopes with star-shaped stickers.

Food and Venue:

After considering several factors such as accessibility, affordability and convenience, we booked Kenny Rogers Roasters at the Annex Building of SM North Edsa. They actually do not have packages for events like these so I just customized the package that is otherwise being offered for birthdays.   Kenny Rogers offers different packages priced depending on the food that is included in the set menu. Prices range from P14,850.00 to P19,500.00 for 30 pax. What we did was to choose among the packages then we just deducted the amount that is allotted for the amenities which is P3, 000.00. For the adult meals, we chose Set D which is priced at 425/pax. It includes 1 pc. Classic Roast Chicken, Quarter Slab Rib, Steamed Vegetables, Tex Mex Macaroni, Rice, Muffin, Choco Mousse and Blue Lemonade. For the kids, pegged at 215/child is a set meal composed of Spaghetti, Choco Mousse, Chicken and Iced Tea. Since not all of our reserved guests were present, some of the guests were able to have a second serving of the meals and we were even able to bring home some.  Of course, I need not go into detail about how the food tastes in Kenny Rogers since I believe a lot of reviews have already been written about them.  I just want to salute the staff headed by Noel (I forgot his family name) for being so accommodating and for assisting us in decorating the venue.  The only downside of getting a venue inside the mall is that they have lots of protocols and they require a permit when bringing things needed for the party.

Decorations

Because I knew that there are only more or less 5 kids attending the event, we opted not to decorate with so much balloons. We only had a couple of star-foil balloons, pompoms and Chinese lanterns which I ordered online to make the place in accord with our theme. Even the letter standees which I, myself painted were ordered online.

Cake and Candy Buffet

My sister-in-law (owner of Yanna’s Sweet Creations) makes really good cakes and desserts so instead of ordering from Kenny’s tie-up, I asked her to bake the gender reveal cake as well as brownies and food for the gods that were included in the dessert table. The Candy Buffet was also a D-I-Y, making use of my sister-in-law’s decorative jars filled with candies ordered from a supplier I found online.  The paper cups we used as containers for the candies were muffin cups ordered from the same supplier of the star-foil balloons and other stuff used in the decorations.

Souvenirs

We had a couple of souvenirs for this event. We had food items in the form of mini-banana loaf and red velvet cookies placed on a brown paper bag sealed with paper doilies and ribbon and non-food items in the form of personalized pillows. The mini-banana loaf and red velvet were both ordered from my sister-in-law while the mini pillows were ordered from an Instagram supplier, @allaboutpartyneedsph. Needless to say, my transaction with my sister-in-law went on smoothly. Aside from her giving in to my little requests, I even had the luxury of not paying down payments upon booking. My transaction with @allaboutpartyneedsph also went well. Lucky me, because after my transaction with her, I received feedbacks that she is no longer as easy to transact with as she has been with me. In fact, the complaints about her were gross I regretted referring her to my sister-in-law and her friends.

Games and Prizes

Games were facilitated by the Host which is an employee of Kenny Rogers.  The prizes for the games were also a combination of food and non-food items. We bought hand sanitizers from Bench and combined them with some of the personalized pillows plus some goodies I asked my mom to buy directly from Baguio. Because we only had a few guests who made it to the event, everyone was lucky enough to bring home all of the prizes.
