Now that is a book. I love this series. This follow up to Beware the Wild was all I wanted and more. I love the three main characters and the love they have for each other. The thing I love most about them is how strong they are, each in their own way, and that they recognize that strength in each other. So many YA books nowadays have one strong, brave female lead and then a host of following side characters but that isn’t the way with Ms. Parker’s stories.
The setting of this book reminds me of my home town and I see some of myself in each of the three main girls. Look at me, getting sentimental. Let’s move on.
I love that this story helps a perfectionist accept that inadequacies don’t always make you inadequate and doing what you thing is right is sometimes wrong. Also, there are plenty of ghosts and stories to go along with them, which is why we all read this genre anyway, amiright.
All in all I couldn’t put it down and loved every minute. I give it 4.89899999 stars because Six of Crows , The Palace Job, and The Dungeoneers are the standards I hold all books up to.
Fictional characters who would like this book: Ron Swanson (if you could get him to read it), Leslie Knope, Dwight Schrute, Pam Beasley Halpert, Monica Gellar, the list goes on.
My favorite quote touches on the camaraderie I mentioned earlier between the girls (and I would be remiss if I didn’t confess that my biggest hope is to one day be referred to this way):
Imposing as a spiderweb, but tough as bullets. Sounds like a southern woman’s dream to me (at least this ones).
