It’s Bridget Jones with vampires in this fresh and funny paranormal romance from debut author Juliet Lyons
When Silver Harris kisses sexy Irish vampire Logan Byrne on New Year’s Eve, she knows other humans just won’t suffice. Convinced she’ll never see him again, she joins the uber-popular vampire dating site, V-Date.com.
What Silver doesn’t know is that the site is more dangerous than she could ever imagined, and soon she’s in over her head. When Logan returns, sparks fly and attraction sizzles, but they’ll have to escape some very real demons if they have any chance of lasting forever.
Dating The Undead is one of the most seductive paranormal reads I’ve come across. Taking the technology of the twenty first century and adding a paranormal twist. Dating online has never been more interesting than when you can browse through tons of hot vampires.
The story starts off with Silver whose personality is just as different as her name. She is down on her luck and fiery as ever when she catches her boyfriend…or should I call him her date sucking face with a rich prissy b*tch. And I quote, “Back then, I had a date – one I envision kissing at the stroke of midnight and not kicking in the balls after catching him sucking face with some Latvian skank.” This all happens within the first few pages of the book. I love stories that put a smile on my face with witty humor.
Silver’s personality is clear and very refreshing from the start. Her take on life and her bluntness makes for a great read. Its only when she’s at her lowest…getting kicked out of the party…after stealing someone else’s coat, that she meets a mysterious vampire who insists on walking her home.
Logan, a sexy vampire with an Irish accent is very similar to Silver. Doesn’t want to be tied down in a relationship, very cocky and yet knows exactly what he wants. It isn’t until the two of them meet and have a ‘bite’ together that each other lingers in the others mind. Just like Silver, Logan has had a troublesome past and relationship issues. This only makes them want each other even more.
Logan gets ordered to conduct a job from his superior while Silver accepts a job as well. Little does Silver know that her job is intertwined with Logan’s objective. Logan is asked to glamour girls that have been asked to go undercover by the local police. Silver has been asked to go undercover to gather critical information about vampires through the thriving website V-Date.com.
Things get sticky when Logan can’t follow through and Silver tries to keep her budding romance with Logan disconnected to her findings. But things aren’t always that easy. Each of their pasts are more connected than they think. Vampire laws are broken and hearts shatter when truths are discovered.
The beginning of the story was great, but as it progressed I felt my interest slipping. Silver was becoming what she vowed never to become, a needy girlfriend and Logan kept on talking about the growing bulge in his pants. Spoiler…once the two of them sleep together their scenes mostly consist of explicit sex scenes. And when they weren’t together that’s pretty much all the other thought about. The quirky independent woman slowly faded and turned into a tramp needing to get laid. While the vampire that has never really loved anyone is willing to get himself killed for a human that he’s fallen in love with.
The underlying plot that was weaved in through the story and the drama from an outside character (not to be named) saved the story for me. I would’ve liked to see more interaction with supporting characters instead of repetitive sex scenes. The ending however took a joyful turn. I would recommend this read for readers that enjoy lightly coated erotic novels.
