Book Tour: Christian Lacroix and the Tale of Sleeping Beauty

“Sharpened rainbow points would poke out of each and every pocket. He was forever using these pencils to draw adventure, magic, and beauty. He had been sketching such visions for as long as he could remember, even before he could talk.”

-Camilla Morton, Christian Lacroix and the Tale of Sleeping Beauty

Hi everyone! Welcome to my second book tour blog post! Today, we’ll be having a little peek inside Christian Lacroix and the Tale of Sleeping Beauty, written by Camilla Morton and illustrated by Christian Lacroix and sent to me by the lovely people at Harper Collins!

At the top of the book, it says it’s A Fashion Fairy Tale Memoir, and upon investigating, I’ve found that there are three in the series all together! I must collect them all! How did I not know that these existed before?! I love fairy tales and fashion AND gorgeous editions of books, so I was really missing out before haha.

Here’s the blurb:

Each book in this inspired series from fashion writer Camilla Morton inventively reimagines one of our favorite “Once Upon a Time” stories, blending with it the real-life story of a famed fashion designer. Lushly illustrated by the designers themselves, these tales illuminate each iconic individual’s creative magic while celebrating his unique life and career. The result is an intriguing combination of whimsy and memoir.

In this contemporary twist on the tale of Sleeping Beauty, Monsieur Lacroix exercises a stunningly diverse array of artistic styles, revealing many more mesmerizing sides to his fertile imagination than those we have already seen in his magnificent fashions.

The first thing that struck me about this book is how utterly gorgeous the dust jacket and naked hardback are. The dust jacket is whisper thin, here’s a better look:

And the naked hardback is just stunning underneath, but you can see it through the dust jacket, transposing the image of the silhouetted girl above into another world.

Also loving that vivid pop of hot pink:

The end-papers are pale lilac with a darker lilac silhouette of a castle and thorns on the edge of one of the sides in both the front and back. But what really stands out, is this adorable detail in the front:

I am so glad this book recognises me for the princess that I am.

Inside, the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty is given a little makeover, and interwoven with the story of Christian Lacroix in an adorable and unique way.

It’s well written and the illustrations are whimsical, often with different typography displayed on the pages as well:

And a lot of the illustrations are bright and colourful, all clearly inspired by fashion:

The book is fully illustrated, in full, vivacious colour, with some double-spread illustrations as well.

Here’s one of my favourite pages:

Overall, I loved the whimsical idea of this series and have serious cover love for this one!
