Dany Laferrière to deliver the Jorgensen Guest Filmmaker Lecture (TODAY)

As part of the Dany Laferrière: An American Journey Film Series, Indiana University Cinema and the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies present Haitian-Canadian author and screenwriter Dany Laferrière, who will deliver the Jorgensen Guest Filmmaker Lecture today, February 16 at 3:00pm.  The lecture will be in French with simultaneous translation. Laferrière will also be present for the 7:00pm screening of La dérive douce d’un enfant de Petit-Goâve.

The Dany Laferrière: An American Journey Film Series at IU Cinema began on February 6 with a screening of Vers Le Sud (Heading South) and continued on Sunday February 12 with the screening of Le goût des jeunes filles (On the Verge of a Fever) .

As Vivian Nun Halloran writes in her review of Laferrière’s work, “In celebrating the visual adaptations of the fictional works of Haitian-born, Quebec-based journalist, novelist, and screenwriter Dany Laferrière through a three-film festival, the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies sets out to deepen our collective appreciation of the imaginative richness and political valences of interamerican cultural productions featuring Caribbean artists living in diaspora.”
