Things have definitely changed since we last saw Tory, Hi, Ben, and Shelton.
They had just defeated a mad man, but because of that, the pack had been split up and Tory is no longer talking to Ben.
My copy of Exposure.Exposure is the fourth book in the Virals series. It was written by Kathy Reichs, and her son Brendan Reichs, and was published in 2014.
So the Virals have been split up, and Tory is trying her best to move on without Ben. During all of that, two students from Bolton Prep, the private school the Virals attend, are kidnapped.
Feeling as if she must do something, Tory then decides that the pack can use their powers to help locate and rescue the two students.
While they investigate the two disappearances, the Virals also start to find out more about the parvovirus that had infected them, giving them almost wolf like abilities. They give the flash drive they had found in the third book , Code, to a hacker, and they soon discover that the files have been added onto in the year since the original creator of the parvovirus had died. And the creator of the files is none other than Chance Claybourne… the same classmate who had been stalking the Virals since the very beginning.
Exposure is a good novel because unlike the first three books, there is tension within the pack. Tory and Ben haven’t spoken to each other since his revelation at the end of Code. Due to this, the Virals often have trouble accessing their powers when they need them.
Another thing that made Exposure a good novel is the addition of a new character. Ella Francis is introduced to be Tory’s new friend, the two having met when they accidentally ended up next to each other in class. The addition of Ella into the series makes it seem like Tory is branching out beyond her pack-mates, and this is something that adds a new layer to the books after three novels of just Tory, Hi, Ben, and Shelton.
The biggest thing that made this novel so great was the twist ending. The Virals finally go to confront Chance about the fact that he has been stalking them for quite a while, and that he has been adding onto the parvovirus research. It is not until the Virals go and confront Chance that they realize just how much he has done with the new parvovirus research…
Kathy and Brendan Reichs do a good job keeping the Virals series fresh and entertaining after four books, all the while signaling that the series is about to come to an end. They keep the reader on the edge of their seat the entire time, from the second the two students go missing, until the very shocking and surprising end.
