Fangirl Reading Recommendation
This weeks recommendation took me a bit to figure out, but I’ve settled on Seth King’s Sunlight. It’s completely different from the other recommendations, and as such I went with a different approach. I couldn’t find the words for this book last night when I sat down with my computer and tried to write. So I left it alone, thought about the book itself and what about it made me love it as much as I do. It’s not a happy story, not by any means of the word, but it is a life changing story.
As a straight woman, I can honestly say that I’ve never experienced anything close to what so many of my fellow humans have simply because I was born straight. I didn’t choose that, and I’m not climbing on any rant box here either before you all gather your pitchforks.
Sunlight was one of the most heartbreakingly REAL novels I’ve ever read and hit me in a way no other ever has simply because it shows a life I couldn’t possibly have even imagined. It’s a story about humanity, love, life, and loss.
Life and love isn’t all rainbows and glitter. It’s dark, and gritty. It’s love and hate. It’s duty to yourself and learning that it’s okay to honor your own heart and mind instead of trying to honor the version of you that society prefers and this is what Sunlight shows.
Life is seeing those that came before you paved the way for you today. How many times in your life have you really sat down and thought about your fellow humans. Their lives. Their struggles. What are the successes they celebrate? Do they not crave basic human touch? Love? Respect? All that and more can be found in the pages of Sunlight.
Sunlight is grace and humility. It’s quite literally, LIFE. This story is something I do really think every single human should read. I said that before when I first finished it and and words left me. I simply didn’t have words to describe how this book touched me then, and even now I struggle to give a name to the feeling that wells inside when I pick up this book and remember. It was so hard for me to sum up this book, and for a writer to have no words…well that should tell you how powerful Sunlight is.
Seth King is changing lives with his words, and if you haven’t checked him out yet, your doing yourself and humanity (Really) a disservice.
You can find Seth on Facebook, Amazon and you can find Sunlight Here
I couldn’t give this book enough stars, and I do hope that if there are people out there reading this now that you at least take the few minutes out of your day to look at this book. You won’t regret it.
