Forever Autumn

It’s been a long time since I did a blog post – too long!

As autumn is now officially upon us (she says sounding very excitable), it means I can bring out the woollens once again. I adore autumn with its abundance of golden hues. From the lower light of the sun, to the russet/ochre tones of the leaves. A walk in autumn is my favourite pastime, the crunch beneath the feet, the feeling of a child as you kick them and the joy of seeing them gathered to the sides on a foot path. All whilst getting a red nose from the nip in the air.

Autumn is just as lovely spent indoors. The smell of freshly baked bread, cinnamon rolls and a pie coming from the oven is all the comfort I need on a freezing cold day after spending the day outdoors tidying up the garden and sowing seeds/bulbs for next spring. As the night draws in sooner it’s time to focus on soft lighting from fairy lights and battery operated candles. This time of year I like to pick up books by Margery Allingham, Agatha Christie, Nancy Mitford, Flora Thompson and Elizabeth Gaskell.

There’s nothing like sitting in an armchair, whilst wrapped up in a woollen blanket, cashmere socks, and with a hot chocolate whilst reading a cosy mystery when it’s lashing down with rain or the wind is howling outside. The only thing missing is the cracking from the fire (central heating has a lot to answer for)!

What are your favourite things about autumn?
