The King of Clubs is an exciting read, filled with romance, danger, and love.
Special Agent Court Gentry tried for six years to forget Lauren Montgomery. They had spent only one glorious week together before she ended their relationship. The woman shouldn’t mean anything to him, but she did. Lauren was the girl of his dreams, and Court had no idea why he was dumped. So when Lauren Montgomery, accidentally walked back into his life, Court didn’t know what to think. Of course, he was furious with her; he just couldn’t stay that way. Court was still in love with the woman.
Lauren was shocked to find the man she’d fantasized over for years, sitting in her apartment. She had broken off with Court, to protect him, against her insane ex-husband, Stephan. Stephan had almost killed her once before he was arrested, and sent to jail. Lauren was hoping that Stephan had lost interest in her because, the evil man, was due out in two weeks. Lauren, however, would have no such luck. Stephan was as obsessed with her, as he ever was.
Court Gentry was livid when he discovered the reason why Lauren had dumped him. If she’d been honest and trusted his ability to keep her safe, they would have been together for six years already. Instead, she broke his heart, and now, Court was going to enjoy, taking out his hurt, anger, and frustration on the Russian ex-husband. But, first, Court needed to convince Lauren to stay with him. That, unfortunately, would prove to be more easily said than done.
The King of Clubs is a compelling read. The book captured my attention from the very first page and kept it until the end. This book has it all; a clever plot, well-developed characters, realistic dialogue, and romance. I loved it, and I’ll be looking forward to reading book three in this riveting series.
Thank you, Montlake Romance and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy!
