YOU heard it here first – Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Newcastle dates have been finalised for the exciting Splash! The Water Circus from Russia which is to tour South Africa for the first time soon. And bookings are open at Computicket.
The countrywide tour opens at Krugersdorp’s Silverstar Casino, where the show runs from August 19 to September 17, then the extravaganza moves to the Big Top at Durban’s Suncoast Casino from September 22 to October 21.
The colourful production then moves to the Big Top at the Golden Horse Casino, Pietermaritzburg, from October 27 to November 5, before moving to the Big Top at the Blackrock Casino in Newcastle from November 9 to 12.
Performances at all three KwaZulu-Natal venues will be at 8pm on Thursdays and Fridays; 11am, 3pm and 7pm on Saturdays; and 11am and 3pm on Sundays. Ticket prices range from R100 to R375 and bookings are at all Computicket outlets or by phoning 0861 915 8000.

Says Matthew Cook, South African producer of the show: “We wanted to take this unique entertainment experience to as many South Africans as possible while the circus is visiting from Russia, so we are thrilled we were able to secure three popular venues in KwaZulu-Natal as well, as part of the nationwide tour.”
The 130-minute show is described as a circus for the modern-age, presenting a variety of all circus genres, but with a unique, visual twist.
The traditional acts look completely different as they are presented in – or above – a 12m-diameter pool of water. Accompanying this is a dazzling lighting and laser show which perfectly displays the impressive body manipulation and contortion feats amongst a series of water fountains.
“Onlookers will gasp as they watch traditional aerial circus acts such as the spectacular Silks, all taking place above water. Added to the already impressive list of circus acts is the Brazilian Espana family, performing their daredevil Wheel of Death and The Russian Swing.”
In addition to the circus acts, the show also has a team of synchronised swimmers who add to the magic. Their disciplined displays are one of the reasons why the show is considered to be so unique.
This circus is totally free of animals and showcases the extreme talent and capabilities of the human body in an action-packed show presented around the custom-built pool.
On April 17, 1998, the first Russian Water Circus was performed under the name Circus on Water. Since then, the creative team has continually developed new acts and shows which travel the world.

Over the past 19 years, the Circus on Water team has toured to Spain, France, Italy, Turkey, Israel, Oman, Lithuania, UAE and China.
The show has not toured internationally since a major renovation in 2013 which piqued the interest of international producer Harry Weber and local producer Cook.
“Harry and I share a passion for circus, and when we decided we wanted to work together, we looked for a show that would be different to anything presented in South Africa before,” says Cook.
“We wanted to push the boundaries of circus and offer something unique. When we came across Circus on Water there was no doubt that we had to bring the show to South Africa.”
Over the past six months, teams in South Africa, New Zealand and Russia have been working on the new show, ensuring only the most spectacular acts are seen on the South African tour.
