I found this happiness tracker called My Year in Pixels, and I made my own version:
So how does it work?
First, you make a legend. I tweaked the legend of the original version, and instead I wrote the emotions using different colored pens. To remember it easily, I think of the Inside Out characters, so yellow is for joy, blue is for sadness, purple is for fear, red is for anger, and green is for disgust.
Next, I made the pixelated calendar. So create a calendar with grids so that one box will correspond to one day.
At the start of each day, I color in the box of the previous day with the color of the emotion I felt. If I felt different emotions during that day, I can shade the box with more colors. The amount of space that the color occupies also matters. If I only felt a sliver of sadness but mostly joy, then I will color a small part of the box with blue but cover the rest with yellow.
This will be a good practice to complement my habit of rereading my diaries. Rereading my diary helps me get a better perspective on things. For example, back in 2016, I thought I had such a bad year, but when I reread my journal, there were so many times when I said that I was so happy. When I reread my 2010 journal this 2018, I realized that I am so much happier these days. Rereading a journal though is laborious, so with the pixel tracker, I can get the same information in a glance.
