review 1: It may took me so long to finally to finish this book ,because i'm not really a big fan of book that contains adventure as what Trista,Violet and Pen had . But on some of the last chapters i found myself glued to this book,and the story took a turn into a very warm one. The relationship between trista and violet , trista and pen and finally trista and triss were just so complicated but wonderful in the same time ! I love this book ❤️
review 2: Another engaging book from Frances Hardinge, dealing with (among many other things) loss and second chances in post WWI Britain This is darker, more unsettling, than her previous works, yet the darkness has a purpose, it isn't a gratuitous layer added for cheap effect. The people and beings Triss encounters as she str... moreives to avoid an awful fate, all feel real with their own motivations and concerns. No caricatures or cardboard cut out villains stalk these pages, it's a well rounded cast. Her trademark invention and imagination are still present, subtly underpinning the tale with superb creatures, descriptions and events. Thoroughly recommended. less
