My very first Unboxing

It is no news that I’m French and live in France, and I have to say that finding a bookish box in Fance with English books without having 20€ of extra fees is pretty impossible…

I really really wanted to try a box like owlcrate or fairyloot but sadly I can’t.. After browsing internet for several hours, I found “Once Upon A Book” ! Once Upon A Book is a monthly subscription box with books, food (sweet or savoury snacks) and gifts. The theme of my box was “Mysteries in England.” I chose the small box with one book (but you can also chose the big box with two books !). Let’s open it !

In this box I had 2 books,(One book as planned and the surprise was another one ! ) 2 tea bags, sweets and a little card with a quote ! I will go over each thing :

I was really expecting something related to Sherlock Holmes, I know that’s cliché but it sums up pretty well Mystery and England though ! But this book was quite a surprise !

I never heard of this book but I’m quite excited to read it  ! And the reviews seems very good! It’s been a while since I read in French, I’m always afraid of a bad translation or a loss of sense… but I’ll give it a go as soon as I finish my huuuuuge TBR pile !

Who doesn’t know the story of Dorian Gray ? If you don’t, I won’t blame you but it’s quite a classic ! It was on my amazon Wishlist for a while because I only have the e-book version, but I was sooooooo happy when I saw it in the box!

Let’s jump to the summary :

“Written in his distinctively dazzling manner, Oscar Wilde’s story of a fashionable young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty is the author’s most popular work. The tale of Dorian Gray’s moral disintegration caused a scandal when it first appeared in 1890, but though Wilde was attacked for the novel’s corrupting influence, he responded that there is, in fact, “a terrible moral in Dorian Gray.” Just a few years later, the book and the aesthetic/moral dilemma it presented became issues in the trials occasioned by Wilde’s homosexual liaisons, which resulted in his imprisonment. Of Dorian Gray’s relationship to autobiography, Wilde noted in a letter, “Basil Hallward is what I think I am: Lord Henry what the world thinks me: Dorian what I would like to be—in other ages, perhaps.”

I never read this book but I saw a movie and I’m acquainted with the story, as it is a classic, I dreaded diving in a book too complicated but now that I’m 20, I think it’s time ! + It’s less than 300 pages long !

With these two books, they sent me 2 bags of  black tea from a very well known tea shop in France “Les Jardins de Gaïa” (Gaia’s garden). A little bag of Haribo sweets and a card with a quote from Sherlock Holmes saying “Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.”

I’m very happy with my box, the book seems interesting and I guess that the gift has been chosen from a list of book I submitted to the company when I registered. So overall looking at its promises and what I received I’ll give it a 5/5 !

Voici mon premier article traduit en français  ! J’ai plus de mal à écrire en français, je ne sais absolument pas pourquoi mais bon…

J’ai bingé pendant des heures et des heures les “unboxing” de FairyLoot, OwlCrate dans l’espoir d’en trouver en France, mais les frais de ports sont toujours beaucoup trop élevés. Je me suis donc baladé un peu sur Google et suis tombé sur Once Upon A Book ! Cette compagnie promet chaque mois “une nouvelle box avec un thème et une sélection d’ouvrages, des gourmandises et des surprises correspondant à vos envies. C’est aussi une gamme de box livresques adaptées à tous les goûts, budgets ou occasions pour vous et vos proches.” La box que j’ai choisis était la petite box sur le thème ” Mystères en Angleterre”, alons-y !

Dans cette box censée contenir un seul livre, il y en avait deux ! Le live principal et l’autre devait être la surprise, accompagnés de petites surprises.

Un peu cliché, mais avec le thème de cette box, je m’attendais à quelque chose en lien avec notre cher ami Sherlock Holmes ! Cependant ce livre est une grande surprise, car je ne connais ni l’auteur, ni la série !

Voici ce que vous pouvez lire au dos :

“Londres. 1665. Christopher Rowe, 14 ans, est apprenti chez Benedict Blackthorn, un apothicaire renommé. Celui-ci l’a pris sous son aile il y a quatre ans et lui a enseigné tous les secrets de fabrication ds potions et remèdes. Mais, depuis quelques mois, l’angoisse pèse sur Londres : une organisation occulte s’attaque aux érudits de la ville. Trois apothicaires ont déjà été assassinés. Le résumé me semble promettant et une fois que j’aurais terminé ma liste de livre à lire, j’entammerais celui-ci ! Celà fait un bout de temps que je n’ai pas lu en français par peur de mauvaise traduction ou perte de sens… ( Oui je suis en fac d’anglais, et nous étudions les différentes traductions et des fois, c’est pas du joli joli !) Mais cette box me permettra de me remettre doucement à des livres en français!

Qui n’a jamais entendu parler de ce livre ?! Personnellement je ne l’ai jamais lu, mais j’ai vu le film et l’atmosphère m’a vraiment intriguée. Ce livre est dans ma wishlist Amazon depuis un moment et quand je l’ai vu dans le colis j’ai tout de suite validé ce choix !

J’ai hâte de lire ce livre, car le personnage de Dorian m’intrigue énormément ! Je vous tiendrais au courant !

Accompagnant ces deux livres, se trouve un petit paquet de dragibus (mes Haribos préférés ! ), deux sachets de thé noir des Jardins de Gaïa (J’adooore le thé ! ) et une petite carte avec une phrase de Sherlock Holmes ” Lorsque vous avez éliminé l’impossible, ce qui reste, si improbable soit-il, est nécessairement la vérité.”

Regardant les promesses de la compagnie, et ce qu’il m’a été transmis, je suis extrêmement satisfaite de cette box et je la noterais à 5/5 !
