Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder

I remember when I first hear, or at least first remembered I heard, someone talk about Poison Study. It was one of my favorite book tube ladies talking about her all-time favorite books. But I didn’t think it could actually be that good because I’d never seen it before, which is dumb but still what I thought. But guys, I read it and OH MY GOD! I LOVE POISON NOW! (maybe not what was intended with the story?)

About to be executed for murder, Yelena is offered an extraordinary reprieve. She’ll eat the best meals, have rooms in the palace- and risk assassination by anyone trying to kill the Commander of Ixia.

And so Yelena chooses to become a food taster. But the chief of security, leaving nothing to chance, deliberately feeds her Butterfly’s Dusté and only by appearing for her daily antidote will she delay an agonizing death from the poison.

As Yelena tries to escape her new dilemma, disasters keep mounting. Rebels plot to seize Ixia and Yelena develops magical powers she can’t control. Her life is threatened again and choices must be made. But this time the outcomes aren’t so clear—.

Let’s Discuss The Cover

There are two (main ones) One is way better. One is good, it’s like cool mystery, can’t see her face, cool castle and the other one is like weird face, fake plants??

That’s enough cover talk. It’s not that important.

The Plot

It’s good guys. There’s enough intrigue and action to keep you interested in the book the whole time, but it wasn’t over the top or unbelievable. I adored the parts of the book in which Yelena is training with poison. It’s intense and educational when it comes to poison, so Yay??

The Characters

Are fine. Yelena has quite a bit of character development, but it doesn’t really come through till the second book. Speaking of which I read the second and it was great, but the third was hard to read, I couldn’t get through it.
