Top 5 Characters of 2017

Characters are the back bone of any story, but not all are as memorable as some. Here are my top five favorite characters from 2017.

Tyrion Lannister (Game of Thrones)

Tyrion Lannister isn’t exactly a lovable character or even a good person, but he is highly intelligent and one of the most skilled political maneuverers in George R.R. Martin’s series. I enjoyed watching his wit, smart thinking, and his ability to outmaneuver others.

Han Alister (The Demon King)

Han is also another intelligent character capable of dancing around danger, but is a more traditional protagonist in that you have great sympathy for him and the situations he finds himself in. Learning at the end of the book that the clans were content to let Han and his family suffer in abject poverty without lifting a finger, only to aide him after his family is dead because they have a use for him, made me empathize with him even further and hope that he get back at those who used him.

Sophia (City of Masks)

Of the novels three characters I sympathized with and liked Sophia the most. A young girl whose called upon to fulfill a roll she never expected, she has her life torn apart and her story culminates in an unimagined betrayal.

Katherine of Aragon (The Constant Princess)

While based more on fiction than historical fact, Katherine’s plight was one that moved me deeply and I sympathized with each and every hardship she endured and wished for her success at every turn.

Eragon (Inheritance Saga)

Eragon is the typical rising hero, coming from nothing to become someone. That he doesn’t have much to begin with and has it all stripped away by the cruel Empire before embarking on his epic quest makes the story incredibly riveting.
