Ahead of its release later this Spring, Film4 has released a UK trailer for Lynne Ramsay’s thriller You Were Never Really Here.
The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as a traumatized veteran who tracks down missing girls for a living. But on his latest job, conspiracy swirls and he finds himself going down a dark path to bring a young girl home safely. The film has been described as a mix of Taken and Taxi Driver but with a unique vision all its own thanks to the film’s director, Lynne Ramsay.
Check out the new official trailer for You Were Never Really Here trailer below:
Based on the book of the same name by Jonathan Ames, the film co-stars Judith Roberts, Ekaterina Samsonov, John Doman, Alex Manette, Dante Pereira-Olsen, and Alessandro Nivola. The film also boasts a score from frequent Paul Thomas Anderson collaborator and Radiohead member Johnny Greenwood that Birth.Movies.Death is referring to it as “possibly [his] best score to date” and “a real scorcher.” High praise for someone just coming off what many believe to be one of 2017’s best music scores, Phantom Thread.
You Were Never Really Here premiered at the 70th Cannes Film Festival, where Joaquin Phoenix won the award for Best Actor, and Lynne Ramsay was the joint winner for Best Screenplay. It will play later this month as the annual Sundance Film Festival. This isn’t going to be just another Liam Neeson-esque thriller.
There is also a hell of a poster to go along with the movie, one that perfectly matches the films almost hallucinatory tone:
You Were Never Really Here will be released in select theaters on April 6th (March 9th in the UK). Amazon is the film’s distributor, which means it will most likely show up on Prime shortly after its limited theatrical run.
