review 1: An improvement over the first in the series, "Trick Of Light", The Grimrose Path still doesn't come close to Thurman's "Cal Leandros" Series. The plot was much improved in this second book of the series and there was less "lets trick the reader because the main character is a Trickster!" than in the first novel, though it was definitely still present (I suggest the author focus on the main character tricking other characters and leave us readers alone as most of the time it either insults our intelligence or blindsides us with no build up). The book gave me a sense that Thurman was still finding her way with these characters- experimenting to find what works. I'm still not crazy about the main character and the secondary characters I do like are still far too similar to... more Cal and Nick Leandros. If I didn't know it was the same author, I'd be angry that someone was ripping off her characters.Thankfully, I have TWO Leandros novels to catch up on. I'm sure I'll be right back to loving Thurman to bits very soon.
review 2: Book 2 in this serious was thoroughly satisfying. Rob Thurman tells a great story. Sometimes Trixas narrative goes on a bit, but the story is balanced with enough action to really make that a minor concern. All of the main four characters, Trixa, Leo, Zeke and Griffin have had some wonderful evolution since the first book as they figure out their lives after the events of book one. I'm def glad I picked this up and am looking forward to more of Trixa's story. less
