review 1: Okay, the switching perspective sometimes did confuse me. I hoped I would be different and like it, but no. Sometimes I would have to stop reading for a minute and figure out whose chapter it was. Multiple POVs work best when the characters aren't constantly together; that just mixes everything up. I did like that this book seemed to get a bit darker than the previous ones and maybe just a bit less silly. A few disappointments, such as Deus Ex Portal and an increasingly 2D Goodfellow, but altogether not bad.
review 2: Cal Leandros and his brother, Niko, are Rom. At least, Niko is. Cal is half-Rom; the other half if Auphe, a supernatural killer. And now, the Auphe want Cal to return to the fold. Niko and Cal live in NYC and scrape up a living working cases ... morefor the supernatural who live there, vampires, werewolves, pucks, chupacabras, all of them. Niko is in love with a vampire, Promise. Promise's daughter, Cherish shows up, on the run from a South American monster. Oshossi comes to New York, looking for Cherish and the treasure she has stolen from him. So, not only do Cal and Niko have to survive the Auphe attacks, they also have to protect Promise and Cherish from Oshossi. This is the 4th book in the series; normally, I try to start with the first one, but this one fell into my hands. I am always a sucker for supernatural monsters. The world-building is good; but the writing structure was not. The dialog is quite repetitive and annoying after a while. Cal is a monster; Niko is too good to be true, yadda, yadda, yadda. Lots of swash-buckling, but not enough character development for me. less
