review 1: "Happiness isn't millions or a huge house. Happiness is you and the one you love."REVIEW - This book had me bursting with emotions, I laughed, I cried, I outright shouted with frustration! This was one heck of a roller coaster ride. It had ups and downs, twists and turns and I was thrilled to be along for the ride. Bitch Hollywood is everything a comedy should be and more. This book is told through the eyes of twenty-five year old Fillip, a handsome homosexual who has an eye for fashion. When a stoke of lucky presents Fillip with the opportunity to become an American Citizen he jumps at the chance. Deciding that Hollywood is the one place he needs to further his career in styling, Fillip leaves behind everything he has ever known and everyone he has ever loved to do just th... moreat. However, moving to Hollywood means leaving behind the love of his life, David and the home they shared together in London. But having made up his mind Fillip ignores his better judgement and pushes his love life aside to focus on his career. After his first couple of days, Fillip begins to realise that Hollywood is not what he thought it would have been. Things go from bad to worse when Fillip, through the people he has met, is sucked into the Hollywood lifestyle and starts to become the one thing he swore he never would, a crazed Hollywood fanatic. Slowly Fillip begins to lose the pieces of the man he once was and the most important people in his life begin to slip through his fingertips. When a tragic occurrence knocks some sense back into Fillip, he takes a hold of his life once again and rights the wrongs he had foolishly made. I would like to thank Jan and Robert Bryndza for giving me the chance to read their masterpiece, it was an honor and i wish you luck with further novels, not that you guys need luck. Bitch Hollywood is elegantly written, beautifully composed and greatly insightful. I felt myself being captivated by this story, I was enthralled in Fillips journey and amazed by the hurdles he overcame. I learned that it doesn't matter where you are, dreams don't just come true in Hollywood, they come true with a lot of hard work and a lot of determination. However, you should still be careful of what you wish for, you might find you don't like what comes true...
review 2: Leaving behind his amicably split, ex-boyfriend and everything he's ever known, even before Fillip's plane leaves the airport he has serious misgivings about leaving Britain to pursue his hearts desire and become a stylist to the stars in the U.S.A.When he arrives, it's not long before he realises the glamour of Hollywood for most people is nothing more than a thin veneer of glitter painted over a slab of disappointment. However, following a chance introduction to a rapidly fading movie star Fillip thinks he has a shot at being the exception to the rule and launches himself into Hollywood arena.Stepping into the world of desperate wannabes and distressed has-beens, all of whom are trying to grab any shred of fame they can get their claws into, Fillip is surrounded by some of the most unnatural people imaginable. But when a tragedy strikes and his so called friends show their true colours Fillip finally realises what it is he really wants.Finishing this book is like losing a limb. I have been absorbed in it for the last few days and have had a blast. With some of the most exuberant and vivid characters imaginable, it brings the horror of Hollywood alive, in all its seam-splitting, strop-throwing glory. With a glut of laugh-out-loud moments and some truly cringe-worthy situations this book is a real delight. Another mind boggling, laugh-out-loud book from Robert Bryndza. Just fabulous. Stop everything, sit down and read! less
