review 1: This is an exceptional piece of work. I haven't read anything from the field of horror and/or fantasy for a long while and if this is where the golden age of horror of the 80s and the 90s evolved into - count me in. Many summerized the story before me, so I'll skip that. I just say: if you love the early works of Stephen King, the works of Neil Gaiman and H.P. Lovecraft, this will be a hell of a ride for you - as it was for me. An homage to the masters from a very unique voice, a very rare combination if you ask me.
review 2: I've never read such a smart, original, nuanced horror novel! Bennett's mastery of suspense, dialogue and characterization was phenomenal. I will definitely read more of his work. It was bit too long, though. I would have loved it to move
... more faster especially the beginning, when I believe I was on page 200 or so before the major character became engaged with the story problem. But I had to keep reading, because this author's command of the moment is superb, and you know, one page led to the next . . . I did love it. less
