review 1: I really enjoyed the book until the final 20 or 30 pages. The idea of chasing a serial killer with the oncoming storm was well written and enticing. The disfunctional family life was well integrated into the plot also. The ending to me came out of nowhere. I think it would have been better if the reader was given something to ponder or look back on to piece the whole thing together. Jim Thompson does a beter job with this plot in "The Killer Inside Me".
review 2: This book is one that I won't forget so easily. When I started to read this book I (I don't want say I didn't like it, because there were parts that interested me) but I was bored, to be honest. I had to force myself to keep reading and it took me a long time to finish the first half of the book. Af... moreter that I put it down. Even though I was constantly telling myself "keep reading, keep reading" , I just couldn't anymore. But after a month or so, me being me, I decided to try and continue reading because I hate to leave a book unfinished. I feel like I didn't give it a proper chance. And man, I am glad I did. The second half of the book gripped me so much I couldn't put it down. I got totally absorbed in it and I finished it in one go. While the first half took me over a month, I finished the second in one evening. And after that I was left speechless. Even though, truth be told, I had this feeling from the beginning that Jake might be the killer and I kind of thought that he can have dissociative identity disorder or somthing, I always just brushed it off. But seriously, this book...wow. less
