review 1: As excited as I was to return to the World of Fitz and the Fool, this book was strange and a little disappointing to me. So much yet so very very little happened in the book which left me unsatisfied. It was strange to see Fitz so domestic in this book but he stayed so true to character and as usual, I hurt so very much in the deepest portions of my heart at various moments of the book. I'm excited to see what the next books will bring in this series.
review 2: I won't rehash what numerous others have said, but I will add in my agreement. This book, while well written in Hobb's lovely style, was chapter after chapter of filler, with a good beginning and an exciting end, which ultimately ends in a very disappointing cliff hanger. Fitz has become unbelievably g... moreullible and unprepared, Fitz Vigilant and Shun are beyond annoying, Chade is more disapproving of Fitz than ever, for little reason, and Fitz plays the whipping boy for all around him it seemed. I may or may not continue with the series :-(. less
