review 1: What can I say? The story quickly degenerated into a mellow dramatic and angst filled tale filled with not very interesting characters. The heroine of the piece showed very little gumption in her dealings with the male characters, a great disappointment when you realize that she has real power at her fingertips, much more than the average female in her world. The villain was true psychopath but not in an interesting or compelling way, he was just a narcissistic bully. The hero of the piece wasn't very heroic, in fact he turned out to be wishy washy and lame.

Her brother and mother are both set in their decision to force Rosa t... moreo beguile and marry Sebastian, a rich and powerful member of the Ealdwitan. Luke lost his parent at a young age and been initiated into the Malleus Maleficorum by his uncle. His final test is to pick a name at random from the Book of Witches and kill that witch. He chooses Rosa, but isn't prepared for the feelings he develops for her, or the guilt he feels at his attempts to end her life. Ultimately he ends up saving her from Sebastian an they are left with just eachother to rely on. Rosa is running from her unhappy life and him from the Malleus (Hammer) who will take his life. The rule was simple... you choose and take the witches life or yours will be taken. This book was a good mix of history and paranormal. I will most definitely be reading book two in this series. less
