review 1: I really, really liked how this book started out. Murakami has a very nice pacing and his words are carefully chosen, and that shines through even when translated. The reason this book is getting only 3 stars is because it kept such a good pace throughout the first two thirds, and then rushed completely through the ending. It felt a little disappointing considering how well it had been flowing up until the climax.
review 2: If you have seen the movie then you know the whole story. Almost every scene you see in the movie is identical to what the book describes, though the film adds some very appropriate scenes that enhance the story. One of the only things that would make me recommend one read the novel are the insightful passages relating the loss of a loved o
... morene, moving on, falling in love with someone new, and gripping with loneliness. less
