review 1: Okay, now this was one FANATASTIC book!!!! The concept of soul-eaters and warriors was just awesome and very original. I mean there are all different types of vampire and werewolve books out there but this was very unique. I love the fact that the author had this wonderful history of how all this came to be, which included Gods & Goddesses of Ancient Egypt and the jealousy of mankind which brought about soul-eaters and the Warriors of Neith and Ankh to battle them. This book sucked me in from the very beginning and held my attention thru it all. I can't even think of any boring spots. Non-stop entertainment, great storyline and originality. What else could you ask for???? I cannot wait to see how this all plays out........ Definetly, give this one chance... more.....
review 2: This is my third Samantha Young adventure (first was the Fire Spirits, second was On Dublin Street) and I must say that no two series are alike. She definitely has a talent for creating something totally unique. At first I was a bit shocked with how dark this book started off and I was a bit nervous that I had accidentally gotten myself into a horror book. But luckily, the creep-factor was just right – I was totally creeped out, but compelled to keep reading. I like the main character Eden, she is flawed and clearly not a “good guy”. Despite the evil that is so clearly a part of her, I was rooting for her to overcome her demons. She is independent and although she feels weak she is actually quite strong. The relationships were difficult to relate to, but it was easy to sympathize with Eden. There was also just enough action to keep the plot interesting and intense. I loved incorporation of Egyptian mythology! It is definitely something that sets this book apart from other paranormal books. I also liked how the backstory of the Ankh, Blessed, and Neith were included so that readers got a touch of “history” and were aware of the mythology. The writing was decent, something that I’ve notices about Samantha’s writing is that she should probably use a thesaurus; she tends to reuse the same words/phrases frequently throughout a book, which is my only complaint. Overall, it was a good book and I’m excited to read the next installment. less
