review 1: If you enjoy historical fiction and Phillipa Gregory, then you will enjoy Sandra Byrd's novels. Her writing makes learning about the intricacies of the English monarchy enlightening and fascinating. If they would have had fictional novels similar to this when I took history in high school and college, I probably would have focused better. She researches her subject well and keeps the reader wanting more.
review 2: This was a really cute novel of Helena von Snakenburg, a Swedish friend of Queen Elizabeth I who became one of her closest companions during her reign. Part historical fiction, part romance, and part Christian fiction, this book had many aspects that made it an enjoyable read. ... more into this one knowing Sandra Byrd's Christian emphasis - unlike the last one! I really liked the Christian influence on this book, and I think it's something that more historical fiction authors should use. I recommend this one! less
