review 1: This book was not what I expected and I sort of ended up having a love/hate relationship with it. I am familiar with the "Don't judge a book by it's cover" motto - yet, still- I often do. So, truth be told, I wanted to review this book based on the cover alone. (Dodges tomatoes being thrown at me.)That being said, the first 25% of the book, I thought I'd never get through. It moved so slow and was just, I don't know - I almost stopped reading it. I'm glad I didn't though.Vangles are an interesting concept...as are their enemies. So, while these Vikings were turned into Vampires, it's very far from your typical vampire story.The adoption of five kids was one area I had a love/hate feeling for. I wasn't sure how the author was going to pull the story off. It hit close to hom... moree, though, as I've taken in a relatives three children recently and can attest to the chaos and changes it brings on the singe life. So, this concept truly worried me, but in the end - it absolutely worked.The other issue was Mr. Big Bad Viking cooking and plying nanny to kids. I see how it worked. And it wasn't the real reason he was there, but even now...it still bothers me.Throw in some issues with the kid's father getting out of prison, demons, and a family of hot Vikings serving an Archangel...and this book ends up being a good read.
review 2: Viking Vampire Angels! Ya gotta love 'em! I know I do! Sandra Hill has a wonderful series about the 7 Sigurdsson brothers...each one guilty of a 7 deadly sin. When the Archangel descends during their hell raising lifetime and sentences each one to 700 years penance for the evil they have done, they keep messing up and have extra years added to their time...thus in the year 2014 we see Mordr Sigurdsson, guilty of Wrath. Having succumbed to a berserker rage, Mordr must atone for killing off and entire group of people bearing the same last name. Now meet Miranda Hart, a woman whose life is running just the way she wants it...a wonderful career, a nice car, her own home. Then *BOOM*, Miranda inherits her deceased cousin's 5 children...3 boys and 2 girls. Miranda needs help, FAST! Add to that the abusive husband of Miranda's cousin is about to be released from prison and vows to kill her and take all he thinks is rightly his. Now we have a frazzled gal with no child rearing experience and a Viking afraid to be near children forced together to bring this ragtail group to order and protect 5 children running in 5 different directions at the same time. Good luck you 2! Bring the popcorn(and the quarters for the swear jar)...this one is so funny! less
