review 1: This heartfelt tale, set in Tuscany, Italy and Devon, England spans 4 decades and tells two distinct tales of love and betrayal, only to find the tales joined at the end in blissful forgiveness and reunion. Marina has a dark secret, and Rafa is not all that he pretends to be - his secrets bring him to Devon and to the beautiful Clementine. In the end, when all secrets are revealed, there is joy in those who have found each other and ties stronger than the ravages of time. I did not want this novel to end, I wanted to continue reading about these wonderful characters. I am giving this book four stars.
review 2: A sweet little story, but with no real surprises.I'm afraid it was obvious who Rafa and Marina were from the first few chapters but I'm impressed Sant
... morea Montefiore got over 400 hundred pages out of telling us. Her world is a lovely place where there are actually very few horrible people - Beppe Bonfanti, Elio and most are just sad or lonely and with the right application of love and tenderness will blossom into wonderful people - Clementine. I was surprised by Zazzetta turning out to be one of the good guys and by the identity of Baffles, but that was pretty much all the intrigue or secrets offered by this book.A lightweight and enjoyable summer holiday read. less

I found this book has a slow start. Took about 118 pages to get to the hook, then it was delightful!

Het boek verveelt nooit, maar de ontknopingen zijn volledig van de put gerukt.
