review 1: I read this book with my 12-year-old. It was somewhat unbelievable, but then again, I would imagine that when I was 12, I would've thought it was pretty fantastic to be on my own for a summer, and I probably wouldn't have found the possibility of my being successful at that to be nearly as outlandish as it would have been. Either way, this book is thought-provoking, emotional and well-written. I would recommend it for a read-aloud, definitely.
review 2: A touching look at friendship, responsibility and family. But there is something disturbing about the whole story. Without giving too much away, I just couldn't believe one of the main plot lines. I mean, not that it wasn't fathomable, but it made me so uncomfortable, I couldn't believe anyone (even children) wo
... moreuld think it was a viable solution. It made me so sad. I'm not sure who I'd give this book to, but it was quite good. The audiobook was very well done - great narrator. less

I liked that it had normal girls becoming friends over a bad situation.
