review 1: I'm pretty upset that I could never actually get into this book. While the plot always sounded a little generic, I'd had my eye on this book for some time. So to open it, start reading, and find that I couldn't connect with any of the characters, which means I couldn't care about them, hurt. I ended up DNFing this book a little after page 100, due to bad dialogue, bland characters, and achingly slow plot progression. If there was a plot at all.
review 2: YA Romance at its best! All I could think as I was reading was which of my students will I first recommend this book to? All of my girls who swooned over the Fuentes brothers (Perfect Chemistry, et al) are going to fall deeply in love with Emilio. That being said, there is more to the book than chemistry and
... more first love. The characters are flawed but the goodness in their hearts guides their decisions. The story of Jude's father and the vulnerability his illness creates adds layers to each character. At times things are a little too perfect and rushed, but maybe that is because I read it in one afternoon. And label me guilty, but I really enjoyed being lost in this sweet romance for a few hours on a breezy summer afternoon. This is one of those books I will need multiple copies of on my independent reading library shelves! less
