review 1: A grim, carefully narrated slice of life from a character braver than he knows. Marketed halfway between thriller and whodunit, I found this tiny novella far more eloquent and human (and, dare I say, dignified) in its scope. The flashback sequences sit in stark contrast to Aaron's day-to-day subtleties, like when John Barton became simply John. Elements of preparing the dead for their final sendoffs could have been grim and gory- instead, they came across as nearly reverent.
review 2: This is a great story but rather macabre as it is all about death and what happens to your body when you die. The story is mainly about Aaron who has discipline and schooling problems. He is very quiet and withdrawn and he decides to leave school and get a job at a funeral home as
... more a trainee funeral director. Aaron sleepwalks and has this terrifying dream every night and we learn in the story what this is so. less

A pretty good YA realistic fiction book about a troubled teen working at a funeral home.
