review 1: I am a huge Batman fan but I'm still having trouble getting into the groove of the New 52 series. This volume is going back and showing early adventures of Batman as he battles The Red Hood Gang, which I think is supposed to be an early origin of the Joker. It's not a bad series, but like I've said before, so far this Batman just seems a step off to me for a reason I can't put my finger on. Batman fans will still enjoy this one, however.
review 2: This was surprisingly strong; telling a very different, pre-Year One story of the beginning of Batman. Fighting a Red Hood gang while trying to hide Bruce Wayne's return. The tone is bright in the artwork, but the world beneath it as just as dark as ever. Even knowing who Red Hood One is (or will become), there's s... moretill a strong sense of the unknown, which for a prequel is always impressive. The energy and story are powerful, and this story stands nearly as strong as the classic Year One. Another really strong Batman book. Scott Snyder's handling of the character has been remarkable; very different from Morrison's runs, but equally as good in very different ways. less
