review 1: First of all, I do want to make it clear that I did like this book regardless of the rating I gave it. I found it to be fun and creative in a field that is rapidly filling up with sub-par knockoffs. The reason i gave Carousel Tides a 3 star rating is simply because of how the story felt like it was all over the place. It almost felt like Sharon Lee had 3 different stories she wanted to tell and decided to mash all of them into one tale. Also, I found the ending to be extreamly anti-climatic considering the build up. Still despite these things, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to fans of urban fantasy.
review 2: I found this slightly reminiscent of Tanya Huff’s equally-enjoyable “The Enchantment Emporium” because of the way the fantastic is s
... moreeamlessly blended with the real. “Carousel Tides” is not the all-guns-blazing type of urban fantasy; in fact it takes you quite a while to realise that this book is not a straight contemporary. I loved how this played out and also the unusual setting (a Maine amusement-park coastal town), which is so clearly portrayed that it is almost a character in its own right. less
