review 1: I enjoyed the fact this sequel answers the questions originally asked in Balance of Trade and ties up loose ends. At the same time, it still left the story open for more tales without feeling like there were unresolved issues. However, having picked this up directly after I finished the first book, I did find there was a lot of explanation and recap that felt unnecessary and slowed the start of this book. One of the things I have enjoyed about the stories told from the Liaden Universe is that they drop you into the middle of things, and you spend a bit of time orienting yourself; that was missing from this story. This one is not my favourite of the Liaden novels, but I did find it worth reading to finish the take started in the original novel, and fill in some more gaps in... more this timeframe, set between the eras inhabited by Cantra and subsequently by Val Con yos'Phelium.
review 2: I liked it - Story assumes reader is familiar with the Liaden Universe. If you are not familiar some characters will talk over your head, like they talk over Jethri's. Recommend reading "Agent of Change" first then continuing from there.Jethri's story is off the main path of Lee and Miller's Liaden Universe, but I expect he will meet up with them in a sequel (or in a later mainstream Liaden tale).I am looking forward to the next Liaden book, and I check out the Baen website often for additional short stories. less

This book picks up where we left Jethry and we see how he's progressed.
