Liaden Universe
review 1: In this follow-up to Fledgling, Theo attends flight academy and learns more about the world and socializing. She really is something of an introvert, as well as a naturally gifted pilot, and those traits don't always help her win friends. In addition, while we see a bit of her parents, and can guess a bit about what is going on in the broader (Liaden) scheme of things, she is generally unaware of how politics can affect things until she is thrown into their midst. The end of the book ties things in a bit more closely with other Liaden Universe story lines, as well as setting things up for a sequel.
review 2: Right up front, I'll say I love the Liaden Universe. Definitely a series I'm happy to reread at least every few years, so of course I really like this.
... moreWith Dragon Ship just released it was time to go back and reread the prior Theo books, this being the second featuring her. After returning home from her journey in the prior book, Theo Waitley learned her Liaden father is not only a scholar but was a pilot before that. Now she has the opportunity to become a pilot too, attending Anlingdin Piloting Academy. She may have a bit of trouble with her math, and even more with the social aspects, but she's a natural in the air - best demonstrated in an emergency landing of a sailplane that gets made into sims for other pilots to fly.But like it or not, trouble won't leave her alone. less
