review 1: An interesting short story but there wasn't really much to it. I found Evan's character interesting and I'm intrigued enough to continue reading the rest of the series - mainly because I've read the Surviving Raine series, enjoyed them, and wanted to see where Evan Arden fit into the mob-war story. I found the idea of the whole short story a bit hard to buy though. It just seemed like a way to dress up a sex scene to me. I mean, Lia walks up to his cabin because she's lost in the desert and all of a sudden they're sleeping together the same night? And she's not even a little bit worried he might be a deranged psychopath? And she has literally just escaped from an abusive relationship and thinks sleeping with someone new the same day is a great idea? Yeah right. Other than ... morethat, I guess this is an okay novella but I'd only recommend reading it if you're planning on reading the rest of the Evan Arden series or have read the Surviving Raine series - doesn't really seem like the kind of book to start you off on a series with. If anything it's just a long prologue to the next book in the series.
review 2: A quick book about Evan Arden living in exile after he kills someone and pisses that family off ...a potential to start a war. Lia stumbles into Evan's place in the desert. They spend a night and day enjoying each other thoroughly. She decides to she has to go back to check on her mom and Evan asks her to come back. He's not sure how much longer he will be stuck in his hell hole. Turns out... it was about to end sooner then he thought.What will happen next? Will he and Lia find each other in the next book? less
